As I was spending time lurking around Facebook this morning, I saw a link posted by a former art history classmate about the passing of Ruth Asawa, an amazing female modern sculptor from Norwalk, California (upon looking at her bio on Wikipedia, I learned that she was born one town away from where I was born!). The first time I learned about Ruth was from a woman's studies class about female artists and I loved that her work incorporates the use of crochet in her sculptures. Her work can be seen throughout San Francisco (which I will make time to see when I will be in town for a wedding in November).
