Francis Bacon's triptych sold at Christie's auction house for a record $142.4 million on Tuesday. The piece was originally estimated at $85 million but 7 bidders brought the total to a record breaking amount. The piece titled 'Three Studies of Lucian Freud' was painted in 1969 and was one of many Bacon pieces to be auctioned.
Fun Fact: The final sale price total include the buyer’s premium (25% of the first
$100,000; 20% of the next $100,000 to $2 million; and 12%
of the rest).
