Recreating the art of Vermeer: "Tim's Vermeer"

While listening to NPR this afternoon, a piece came on about how the art of 17th century Flemish painter Johannes Vermeer was possibly created... by using the technology of lenses, mirrors and camera obscura techniques.

The documentary titled 'Tim's Vermeer' tells the story of inventor Tim Jenison (as narrated by my favorite people, Penn & Teller) and his journey to paint in the same manner that Vermeer painted by using the techniques that would have been available during that time period. Jenison was inspired by Vermeer's works and also by English contemporary artist David Hockney's book 'Secret Knowledge.' Hockney theorized that Renaissance painters might have possibly achieved the photographic accuracy by using tools that anticipated photography.

Another movie to add to the list of things to see!
